Say hello to the future, not much has changed.
With the launch of the DSi just around the corner (April 5 for those of you who don’t keep up to date with the latest gadgets) the question was going to be brought up at some point: Should I get a new DS, again? Well, if you have an original DS, let me save you the time of reading the rest of the post and answer your question in a single word: YES! If you have a DS Fat, first, don’t be too ashamed, and second, scrounge up $170 pre-tax and the sleeping bag, and wait outside of your nearest store, as you will no longer have to hide your DS from all your cooler friends. For the rest of you, read on after the jump. (more…)

There are rumors going around that speak of a new video-on-demand service that is to provided by Apple. It would be an extension of the iTunes ecosystem and would supposedly allow one to purchase video content on iTunes and then, instead of downloading it and having to store it, would allow one to simply stream the content over the internet at any time. This is may sound like similar services already provided, such as Netflix Watch it Instantly, what purposedly allow streaming through devices such as an Apple TV, or even an iPhone, not just a web browser or special device like Netflix. This would solve the storage issues of those devices, as it would eliminate the need to store video content. It is not clear whether the service would be free to existing users or would require a monthly payment, nor is it clear when Apple would announce such a service.

Macworld 2009 has come and past this year, and I wouldn’t blame you if you never read about it. To answer the question I posed in the title, it was a bust with almost no product announcements at Apple’s final Macworld. But don’t think that products were the only things absent from Macworld, because so was Steve Jobs, the CEO and co-founder of Apple. Traditionally the keynote speaker, he was absent this year to continue ongoing treatment for a hormone imbalance. The major products announced were iLife 09, iWork 09, a new 17 in. Macbook Pro, and multiple changes to iTunes. Read more details on them after the break.

Today (2/26) Apple released new versions of it Macbook and Macbook Pro line. They are all simply undates to things such as processor speed and hard drives but they are still signficant none the less. In detail, there are faster processor speeds across the board as well as more hard drive space. There are also some new features such as the new multitouch trackpad for the Pros and a new LED backlight option is availible for the 17 incher. As you can see, the updates are mostly minor and don’t deal with the aesthtic sense of the machines. In other news, Apple also released firmware version 1.1.4 for it’s iPhone and iPod Touch products. The updates, while large at around 150 MB, are said to do very little to the overall experience and are thought to exist to simply “pave the way” to the soon to be released SDK.

The iPhone will be launching in Germany by T-Mobile for 399 euros on Novenmber 9 just like its UK counterpart. It will also be the same model as in America and by the end of 2007 T-Mobile hopes to have EDGE coverage over all of its current phone coverage areas. The phone will also retain all of its uses as in America. The following quote is from one of our admins, Scott, “I hope those damn Germans are happy”.

Intel’s announced USB 3.0 specification could possibly achieve throughput beyond 4Gbps! This would use the same connector as a standard USB cable, however- the USB 3.0 cable would be laced with a magical optical link and will (for serious this time) have a max length of 2 Meters.
Meanwhile, a 1Gbps throughput is being targeted with Ravencraft’s jewel: Wireless USB 1.1. Although with existing 480Mbps Wireless USB only achieving about 40Mbps average, Intel would be smart to focus on the mechanics instead of the glamour. Unfortunately, it’s all just a crock of sh** until they deliver, but with Apple running Intel inside now, Sony putting USB in their camcorders (who uses that?), and eSATA being utilized for external disks… My beloved Firewire’s days sure seem numbered!

A certain Scott Vanderlind has recently come into possession an Apple Bluetooth Headset. This would normally cost $129 as a suggested retail price, but due to Scott being the savvy consumer he is, purchasing an iPhone before the price drop, he recieved a $100 store credit which then reduced the price to a mere $29(without tax). Scott says the following concerning his new headset, “I like it and think it is great. It has picturesque clarity and an unbeatable design”.
